Court acquits Zardari in SGS Cotecna case

RAWALPINDI: Accountability Court on Wednesday acquitted Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari from SGS Cotecna case while in the BMW case against Asif Zardari, the court reserved the judgment till Friday (tomorrow). Accountability Court-3 exonerated Asif Ali Zardari in Cotecna reference along with Begum Nusrat Bhutto and former chairman CBR A.R. Siddiqui in the case. After the withdrawal of three names, the hearing will continue against four other suspects.

The hearing is underway in BMW reference, as Accountability Court Judge Sagheer Quadri urged that Asif Zardari must appear before the court in the case. Farooque H. Naik, the counsel of Asif Ali Zardari, argued that his client could not appear before the court due to security reasons and prayed for his exemption from appearing before the court in the case. The judge advised the counsel of Zardari to submit a written request with the court for his plea. Accountability courts have so far dismissed six of the seven references, which were filed against the PPP Co-Chairman.-SANA
