ISLAMABAD: Secretary Information of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Ahsan Iqbal Tuesday said Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif would contest by-elections and play their important role in National Assembly and Punjab Assembly respectively. Talking to a private television, he said in 2002-elections nomination papers of Sharif brothers were accepted, so there was no reason of rejecting their papers in the 2008 elections.
He said it was unfortunate that Nawaz and Shahbaz were denied their right in the last elections but, now “we hope that soon they would contest by-elections and play their important role in National Assembly and Punjab Assembly.”To a question, he said PML-N and PPP were committed to bring back the constitution to October 12, 1999 position, which would also help in removing restriction on third time premiership.
Earlier, Siddiqul Farooq, PML (N) spokesman Siddiqul Farooq told a foreign news agency that Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif are planning to contest by-elections. There is no dearth of vacant seats and the Sharifs can contest by-elections without any problem, Farooq said.-SANA
