SC allows Gulistan Khan to contest election

ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar has allowed Gulistan Khan, an independent candidate, to contest the election for the NFFP Assembly from PF-69 Tank. The court, however, linked the matter of acceptance of his Deeni Madrassha degree to the degrees case already pending before the court.

Gulistan Khan holds degree from a Deeni Madrassha which had been challenged before the election tribunal by his rival candidate Habibullah Kundi of PML (Q). However, that tribunal dismissed the opponent’s petition. Kundi went to high court and his appeal there was also rejected.

After hearing on Thursday, the Supreme Court also rejected the petition of Kundi and allowed Gulistan Khan to contest the election. Sh Zamir Hussain appeared on behalf of Gulistan Khan and Mahmood A Sheikh was the counsel for Habibullah Kundi. Other members of the bench were Justice Muhammad Akhtar Shabir and Justice Syed Sakhi Hussain Bukhari.-SANA
