Local Govts in 92 districts backing mainly PML-Q candidates: CSO

ISLAMABAD: A Consortium of thirty Civil Society Organizations monitoring elections has alleged that Local Governments in ninety two districts of Pakistan are supporting certain candidates.A report released by CEO said that election networks claim the majority of Nazims have been found involved in supporting the candidates of pro-President Musharraf Pakistan Muslim League. But in some districts MQM, Pakistan Peoples Party, JUI, Awami National Party and some independent candidates are also enjoying the backing of local officials.

According to the code of conduct for the general elections, Local government are not allowed to back any candidate of party in the polls. The Election Commission acknowledged recently that the rules laid down for the polls are not being followed properly.-SANA
