Sri Lankan FM calls on Musharraf

RAWALPINDI: The Foreign Minister of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Rohitha Bogollagama, called on President Pervez Musharraf here on Thursday at President’s Camp Office and discussed with him bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest. The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka conveyed to the President the good wishes of the President of Sri Lanka. He also briefed the President on the latest developments in Sri Lanka.

President Musharraf expressed his support for the efforts of the government of Sri Lanka in its fight against terrorism and to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty. He also apprised the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister about the efforts being made by Pakistan to combat the menace of terrorism and extremism.

The President appreciated the principled position adopted by the Sri Lankan government at the Commonwealth. He expressed the hope that the Commonwealth would adopt a more realistic appreciation of the steps taken by Pakistan for the consolidation of democracy in the country.
The President emphasized the need to further strengthen the close friendly relations existing between the two countries. The Foreign Minister, Inam ul Haque, was also present during the meeting.-SANA
