ISLAMABAD: The Government of Japan will provide financial support of US $ 78,995 under GGP programme (Grant Assistance for Grass roots Human Security Projects) to Millat Progressive Society, an NGO, for implementation of the project ‘connection of City Public School in Skardu’.
The agreement for the project was singed by Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Seiji Kojima and Yousaf Hussain, representative of Millat Progressive Society.
The grant will be utilized for construction of the school building with nine class rooms, two staff rooms, one office room, 12 toilets and the boundary wall. The project will provide better facilities and environment for education to the students of the area, especially the permanent school building will accord comfortable, peaceful and safe condition to schoolgirls, which is strongly desired by their parents. The current proportion of school girls total enrollment is 31.72 percent and this proportion is expected to increase in the near future.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Japanese ambassador said that the education sector and development of human resources were among the top priorities of the Japanese Official Development Assistance. The people of Northern Areas are traditionally education-minded, therefore the Government of Japan is happy to help schoolgirls of the area to receive primary and secondary education, he added.
The Ambassador expressed the hope that the project would further strengthen the bond of friendship between the people of Japan and the People of Pakistan and it would contribute to the social and human resources development.-SANA
