ISLAMABAD: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) AJK / Pak Chapter Saturday staged a protest sit-in and demonstration to mark the Indian Republic Day as a Black Day here, before the UNMOGIP office. All the members of the APHC attended the black day rally, and it was joined by other Kashmiri organizations and political and human rights activists.

The APHC activists holding banners and placards raised high pitched slogans of freedom, calling upon all freedom loving states and groups to support the just cause of Kashmiris. Amidst a march by APHC activists, Convener APHC Azad Kashmir Chapter Muhammad Farooq Rehmani presented a memorandum to the UNMOGIP Commander spelling out reasons for observing the black day by Kashmiris.

The Memorandum condemned the obduracy of India towards a peaceful settlement of Kashmir through a tripartite dialogue between India, Pakistan and the true representatives of Kashmir.
The memorandum to Mr. Ban Ki-moon rejected illegal military occupation of Kashmir by India, police and army rule in Kashmir, draconian laws, detention of political workers, genocide of Kashmiris in the last 17 years and other serious human rights abuses in Jammu and Kashmir.

Criticizing India for having failed to reach any just settlement with the people of Kashmir and Pakistan, it urged upon the UN chief to take cognizance of the root cause of the regional tension and compel India to demilitarize Jammu and Kashmir, repeal draconian laws, release political detenues and restore all civil liberties to the people of Kashmir, without which no dialogue can move forward to the satisfaction of the people of the state in line with the UNCIP resolutions. Failure to do so will result in intense human sufferings, regional tension and grave jeopardy to international peace and security in our part of the world, he observed. The Indian aggression and tyranny in Jammu and Kashmir must be ended, the memorandum concluded. The UN commanders received the memorandum and assured to forward it to New York.-SANA
