ISLAMABAD: A three-member Supreme Court bench consisting of Mr Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi, Mr Justice Muhammad Qaim Jan Khan and Mr Justice Mian Hamid Farooq on Monday ordered to release Ramaish M Udaisi, former Secretary Land Utilization, Sindh in an accountability reference. He had been imprisoned for two years in the reference and the Sindh High Court had maintained the sentence.
According to details, Ramaish had prepared a summary for allotment of government land at the rate of Rs 25 per square yard. The then chief minister Abdullah Shah approved the summary and the land was allotted though the actual price of the land was much higher. Later an accountability reference was made against Abdullah Shaha and Ramaiish. While Abdullah Shah was absconding, Ramaish was sentenced to two years for the misuse of authority.
In Monday’s hearing, Abdul Rahim Qazi, counsel for Ramaish M Udaisi argued that 26 references had been made against his client and he had been released in the 25. He maintained that the land in question had been returned to the government and the government had not suffered any financial loss. In effect, the government had also confiscated the amount deposited at the rate of Rs 25 per square yard.
On this the court ordered his release. Deputy Attorney General Naheeda Mehboob Elahi and NAB’s councsel Zulfiqare Bhutta also appeared before the court.-SANA
