ISLAMABAD: Secretary Interior Ministry Syed Kamal Shah Saturday confirmed that two suspected terrorists have been arrested in Dera Ismail Khan involved in the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on December 27, 2007. They have confessed to the crime, he said.
Talking to a private TV channel, the Interior Secretary said that both the suspects have confessed of their involvement in the assassination plan of Ms Bhutto. According to preliminary investigation, one of the suspects is 30 years old and belongs to Waziristan. Kamal Shah said that it was not proved that the two suspects had any involvement in the first attack on Bhutto’s life in Karsaz, Karachi on October 18, 2007.
Security forces claim arrest of Laiquat Bagh tragedy’s suspect
ISLAMABAD: Security forces Saturday claimed that they have arrested a 15-year-old suspect allegedly involved in the Liaquat Bagh tragedy on December 27. The 15-year-old suspect Aitezaz Shah, who has been arrested in Dera Ismail Khan, told investigators he had been part of a five-man squad deployed at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi where former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was martyred along with 30 others.
Police sources said that the young man belongs to a group involved in the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto. Authorities also claimed to have extracted important information from him with reference to the terrorism network. Source said that the suspect, who belongs to Mansehra, was arrested from a bus stand in D I Khan when he was trying to enter the city.
Officials in Islamabad, however, said they had no information whatsoever about any arrests in connection to Ms Bhutto’s assassination.
Three suspects held for assisting alleged terrorists
ISLAMABAD: Police have arrested three suspects from various parts of Sargodha district for harboring accused involved in suicide attacks and providing assistance and information to them.
Talking to a private TV channel Saturday, Regional Police Officer Chaudhry Hamid Mukhtar Gondal said that three suspects have been arrested from various areas of Sargodha for harboring alleged terrorists. He said that the police have imposed ban on men for using chaddars in Sargodha, Khushab and Mianwali districts for one day to ensure law and order in the area during Youm-e-Ashur.-SANA
