ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry Saturday issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to be adopted by the law enforcing agencies to prevent suicide bombings. Spokesman of the Ministry Brig. (Retd) Javed Iabal Cheema said in a statement that the provinces have been asked to sensitize all personnel of the law enforcing agencies about the SOP.
He said every effort has been made to ensure foolproof security during Ashura. Apart from police forces, services of Rangers, Frontier Corps, Frontier Constabulary and Army are also being used to prevent any untoward incident, he said. He said contingency plans have also been prepared and SOP devised for security of the routes of Ashura processions, and walk through gates, metal detectors, closed circuit televisions and screening machines have been installed outside venues of religious gatherings.
He said 36 districts of the country have been declared sensitive and special attention is being paid to them to ensure security in these areas. Of them, 15 districts are from Punjab, nine from Sindh, eight from NWFP, one from Balochistan and three districts from Northern Areas. The spokesman said Peace Committees consisting of religious ulema and law enforcing agencies have been activated and meetings held on daily basis to take stock of the situation.-SANA
