Army to be deployed in Punjab’s 22 districts

LAHORE: Punjab government would deploy Army in 22 and Rangers in 13 districts of the province besides police force to maintain law and order during the holy month of Muharramul Haram. The decision was taken in a meeting of DCOs from all over the province, which was chaired by Punjab Chief Secretary Salman Siddique late Saturday night. The head of National Commission for Assessment of Damages, Dr Isani and a number of provincial secretaries were also present.

The meeting also directed the concern authorities for special arrangements for checking of Majalis’ participants with the help of organizers. The DCOs were directed to check distribution and printing of provocative material, religious wall-chalking and violation of Loudspeakers Act, and ensure uninterrupted power supply to Majalis venues.

The meeting also reviewed the arrangements for general election. It was told that 180 complaints of various natures have so far been received from all over the province, of which 91 have been disposed of, while necessary action is being taken on the remaining 89.

The meeting also examined wheat and flour supply situation and in this connection, the Chief Secretary directed the DCOs to ensure flour supply in all urban union councils on daily basis. He said arrangements have also been made for sale of 15 percent of flour ground at mills, at sale points set up by the government. If quota of a mill was withheld due to any reason, it must go to other flour mill for grinding so that people would not suffer, he directed.-SANA
