ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Muhammadmian Soomro has said that government is committed to ensure transparency of the whole electoral process so that a truly representative government takes control of the national affairs. Talking to Member Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate, Senator Joe Lieberman who called on him, the Prime Minister said Foreign Observers and International Media would be welcomed to see for themselves the entire exercise of elections. He said complete access would be extended to them to any place they intend to visit.
Referring to terrorism, the Prime Minister said it is a common challenge for the entire world and Pakistan is committed to play its role in eliminating the menace. He said the people of Pakistan support the measures against extremist elements that are directly affecting their better future.
He said economic deprivation in the FATA region bordering Afghanistan is one of the main reasons that some people of that area are being misled by the extremist elements. The government, he said, is actively involved in bringing about development in the region by improving infrastructure and increasing the basic facilities of life for the common people.
About Afghanistan, Soomro said that strong and stable Afghanistan is in the larger interest of Pakistan. The US Senator expressed confidence over arrangements being made for holding of free, fair and transparent elections saying that it would strengthen Pakistan both politically and economically.-SANA
