Govt gives high priority to education: PM

BAHAWALPUR: The caretaker Prime Minister Muhammad Mian Soomro has said that the present government is giving high priorities to education for eradication of illiteracy and backwardness from the country. Addressing a function held at Islamia University here on Saturday after inaugurating different developmental projects in the university, he said that education is the most effective source of individual’s mental, physical, ideological and moral training.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan needs intellectual professionals to act according to the new socio-economic world order and only universities could produce such professionals to make the country strong and prosperous. He urged the teachers to improve the quality of education and research for socio-development of the country. The Punjab Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Khalid Maqbool in his address hoped that the newly established Fine Arts Department and Bahawalpur Art Gallery and the Saraiki Department in the University would be instrumental to preserve rich cultural heritage of the area. The Prime Minister on the occasion announced a special grant of 20 million rupees for the University to undertake the extension projects to provide essential services to the faculty and the students.-SANA
