Despite obstacles, country on tack to democracy: Memon

ISLAMABAD: Federal caretaker Minister of Information and Broadcasting Nisar A. Memon has said that Pakistan is onto its march towards democracy despite hindrances and interruptions and that the nation and the government are determined to bring peace and stability to the country. Talking to Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan David B. Collins who called on him here on Saturday, the minister said that country is marching towards genuine democracy and elections will be held in a fair, free and transparent manner.

Both the leaders discussed on range of issues of bilateral interest. The minister appreciated the fact that the Government of Canada strongly supports the right of the people of Pakistan to enjoy the democratic rights and freedoms to which they are entitled.He said that in order to facilitate Election Commission to conduct elections in a free and impartial environment, the media must give equal coverage to all political parties. Canadian High commissioner David B. Collins hoped that the elections in Pakistan would be a major step towards democratic order. He said the Canadian government would send observers team for the upcoming polls.-SANA
