ISLAMABAD: A five-member Scotland Yard team arrived here on Friday to investigate the murder of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto who was assassinated along with 30 others after her party rally in Liaqat Bagh, Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007. The British detectives were received at Islamabad International Airport by the officials of British High Commission in Pakistan. Sources said that the Scotland Yard team later visited the FIA Headquarters where they were briefed about tragic incident. The British investigative team will also hold a meeting with officials of the Interior Ministry, sources said.
The detectives will also visit and examine the scene of the crime at Liaqat Bagh and will meet eye witnesses. It is believed that the Scotland Yard might seek autopsy of Benazir Bhutto’s body, for which permission would be sought from her widower Asif Ali Zardari.Earlier, Zardari said in a press conference that he was not accepting the President Musharraf’s decision of seeking assistance from Scotland Yard in probing Ms Bhutto’s murder. He demanded that investigations into the case should be carried out by the United Nations.-SANA
