LAHORE: The British High Commissioner in Pakistan Robert Brinkley met PML (N) Chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif here at his Raiwind Farm on Thursday and discussed with him the current political situation of the country as well as postponement of general elections.Nawaz Sharif on the occasion criticized the government for postponement of the election and accused the ruling party to save the PML (Q) skin by delaying the polls for 40 days. He said there is no chance of holding of fair, free and transparent elections under the present regime. People will totally reject the Q league if free and fair election were held in the country, he added.
The PML Chief also expressed his dissatisfaction over the Benazir Bhutto’s killing investigation and said that no independent inquiry was possible under the current government.British High Commissioner Robert Brinkley said that the international community including United Kingdom wanted fair, free and transparent elections in Pakistan so that democracy can flourish in the country.Brinkley also visited residence of the detained President of Supreme Court Bar Association Aitazaz Ahsan but was not allowed to meet him. The British envoy however, met Aitazaz’s wife Bushra Aitazaz Ahsan.-SANA
