Western media, leaders’ propagate against Pak Army in Bhutto’s murder

LONDON, WASHINGTON: Western countries, their media, leaders and secret agencies have started a series of accusations against Pakistan Army that it might be behind the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. The Western media in this regard have revealed breathtaking allegations. Defence experts, however have termed these allegations as conspiracy against Pakistan and opined that one can not rule out foreign hands in the tragic incident of Bhutto’s assassination.

Meanwhile, ISPR spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad categorically rejected these accusations against Pakistan army and termed these as “utterly nonsense”. DG-ISPR came harsh on the Western media while commenting on the allegations as saying that “few stupid individual within Western media is doing propaganda against the Pakistan Army.” How you could believe on the health of such baseless stories when any body can paste such ridiculous and absurd remarks on websites, he remarked.

The Foreign office also strongly reacted to theses allegations that Pakistan troops might have killed Bhutto. A spokesman of the Foreign Office said that the western media has twisted certain remarks. “We reject such ridiculous, absurd and sinister insinuations that reek of animus against Pakistan and an intent to see Pakistan destabilized,” he said.

The Government of Pakistan, he said, is making every effort to comprehensively investigate the dastardly assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Government is committed to a thorough and transparent investigation and will not shy away from receiving assistance from outside, if needed, he added. Pakistan, the spokesman said, also expect that responsible leaders and public figures in the US would refrain from making statements that are likely to be distorted and misused and could further upset the people who are still in a state of shock because of the national tragedy.

British Intelligence Agency MI-5 accused that Pakistan’s secret agency was involved in the Liaquat Bagh tragedy that claimed the lives of more than 30 people including the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.A British daily Scotland on Sunday reported while quoting MI-5 sources that Pakistan’s secret agency may have been behind the attack on the charismatic politician Bhutto as she was expected to become the country’s prime minister for another term and to which the Pakistan secret agency was opposed. The Pakistani government held the local Taliban faction responsible for the attack.

The MI-5 also blamed the same secret agency for plotting to assassinate Bhutto earlier on October 18 when PPP’s rally was attacked on her return back to Pakistan in which she escaped unhurt. The report also gave reference of Ms Bhutto’s e-mail to UK Foreign Secretary David Milliband naming three senior members of Musharraf’s government and who according to Ms Bhutto wanted her dead.

Hillary Rodham Clinton has also said, “Pakistan’s military might have assassinated Benazir Bhutto because the killing took place in the garrison city of Rawalpindi. An article in New York Sun also accused while quoting unnamed American intelligence officer that Pakistan’s Army’s Special Services Group (SSG) murdered Benazir Bhutto. A working theory, according to this American source, is that PML (Q) and MQM had effectively suborned at least one unit of SSG. Defence experts here in Pakistan expressed concern over these allegations of western media, its leaders and secret agencies and termed these allegations as conspiracy against Pakistan. They are of the view that one can not rule out foreign hands in the tragic incident of Bhutto’s assassination and propaganda against Pakistan Army might be an attempt to destabilize the country.-SANA
