ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf said that Pakistan army will stay in the Swat valley till it is fully cleared of the terrorists. The President also directed the federal and provincial governments for early finalization of compensation and socio-economic development package for the people of Swat and the joining area, following the return of peace and normalcy in the valley.
Chairing a meeting to review the situation in Swat after the successful completion of military operation against militants in the valley, President Musharraf directed to carry out damages assessment to finalize the compensation for the families affected during the militants’ activities.
He said that the militants had unleashed reign on terror on peace loving people of Swat that was strongly opposed by them and added that Pakistan army will stay in the area till it is fully cleared of the terrorists.
He said the people of the valley rejected the militants and their retrogressive policy as they desired progress and development of their area. He said that the police, levies, paramilitary and frontier corps are being beefed up effectively against the terrorist and the militants.The President also directed the Provincial government to facilitate the speedy rehabilitation of the families who were forces to migrate as result of the action of the militants.
Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kiani briefed the meeting about the military operation which resulted in killing, arrest and evacuation militants of all major towns and villages of Swat valley. The meeting was attended by the Governor and Chief Minister NWFP, Ministers for Interior, Law and Finance and senior officials.-SANA
