Musharraf pays farewell visit to Self Propelled Regiment

RAWALPINDI: President Pervez Musharraf Monday paid a farewell visit to Dashing Self Propelled (SP) Regiment Artillery at Bahawalpur Cantonment. He met Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and men of the Regiment. General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff was also present on the occasion.

According to an ISPR press release, President Pervez Musharraf was commissioned in 16 Self Propelled (SP) Regiment Artillery as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1961. He saw action in the 1965 war as a young officer in Khem Karan, Lahore and Sialkot Sectors with 16 SP. The President said that he is proud to have been commissioned in one of the finest units of Artillery. This unit has played a vital role in defence of the country both during peace and war, he added.

While talking about current situation in the country, the President said that defence of the country has been made impregnable and state of preparedness, equipment and training of the Armed Forces is of the highest order. He said that Pakistan Army is one of the best in the world, which has not only ensured security of the country but has also contributed substantially towards various national development programmes.

A farewell dinner was also hosted by Garrison Officers for President Pervez Musharraf. COAS, Corps Commander and all officers were present on the occasion. Earlier on arrival in 16 SP, President was received by Corps Commander Lieutenant General Raza Muhammad Khan, General Officer Commanding Major General Javed Iqbal and Lieutenant Colonel, Aijaz Ali Khan, Commanding Officer 16 Self Propelled Regiment Artillery.-SANA
