Baghliar project commissioning in April 2008

JAMMU: After the clearance of all the bottlenecks in the commissioning of Stage-I of Baghliar Hydro Electricity Project, the Azad government has said that the Stage-I of the project to be commissioned in the second week of April, 2008. In a high level meeting convened by Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sudhanshu Pandey and attended by the officers of Revenue Department, Power Development Corporation (PDC) and Chief Resident Engineer, Baghliar Project, all the bottlenecks in the project were cleared and it was decided to commission of Stage-I of Baghliar Hydro Electricity Project during the second week of April, 2008.

The compounding of water in the catchment area reservoir of the project would lead to submergence of 108 kanals of land of Pul Doda. The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Doda has finalized the rehabilitation plan for the purpose.

As per the plan, people residing in the area along with their commercial establishments would be rehabilitated to another safe destination alongwith suitable compensation. Work is also apace to construct road links between Khelani-Balwinder and two bridges which will be completed shortly.

To finalize the arrangements and infrastructural backup required for the commissioning of the project, it was decided that joint meeting of PDC, Executing Wing of Baghliar Project and revenue staff of DDC Doda and Ramban will be convened on January 15 and 24, 2008. By April it is expected that the water flow in river Chenab will return to normal level due to melting of snow in higher reaches. Locals of said area will be well informed in advance through extensive publicity campaign.

Chief Resident Engineer apprised the authorities to provide special security to the project keeping in view its easy access to the National Highway. The Divisional Commissioner asked the DDC, Ramban and Doda to come up with an elaborate disaster management plan foreseeing all the aspects of security and safety of the people living in the vicinity of the project.-SANA
