PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) unveiled its election manifesto in which the party has reiterated that it would change the name of the NWFP province to Pakhtoonkhwa after coming into power. Addressing a news conference, Central President of ANP Asfandyar Wali Khan said that his party will continue to work for strengthening of democracy, rule of law and establishment of peaceful, prosperous, progressive and liberal society. The manifesto of the party said that nobody would be racially discriminated in its government while reforms would be made in the tribal areas and the tribes would be given their full representation in the provincial assembly.
He said that no seat adjustment would be made in the elections. He further said that ANP would make efforts for the establishment of a peaceful, liberal, progressive and moderate society in the country. The ANP chief said the federation would give equal rights to all units and actions would be taken for the promotion of democracy, establishment of independent judiciary, freedom of media, abolition of poverty, protection of human rights and socio-economic and political development.
Asfandyar Wali Khan said the steps would be taken for development of agriculture and prevention of unemployment, and excise duty on tobacco would be given to the province instead of the federation. It has been determined in the manifesto that relations with India, China and the US would be improved while it has been stressed on resolving the issue of Jammu and Kashmir through dialogue. Asfandyar Wali said that his party would form relations with America on the basis of equality.
It will also work for provincial autonomy, enhancing power of Senate, separation of judiciary from executive and controlling horse trading. The manifesto also stressed the need for eliminating of corruption, poverty and illiteracy.-SANA
