Declare entire Kashmir as free economic zone: Mirwaiz

SRINAGAR: Calling for promoting trans-LoC trade and declaring entire Kashmir as free economic zone, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has criticized the puppet regime in occupied Kashmir of meting out step motherly treatment to the traders of Shehar-e-Khaas. Speaking at a function held by the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers’ Association in connection with the oath taking ceremony of newly elected members of the Jamia Market Traders Federation here, the Hurriyat chairman said, “Despite paying the tax and other dues to the government, markets in Shehar-e-Khaas are being denied of the basic facilities.”

Mirwaiz said the “lackadaisical attitude” of the authorities had hampered the business activities in Maharaj Gunj, Zaina Kadal and other markets that were the prominent business centers previously.“Had that government paid the attention to these markets, the Maharaj Gunj market won’t have gutted in the fire,” he said.

Terming the state government’s move of ignoring these markets as an act of “vengeance” Mirwaiz said, “Sidelining the traders of these markets was an intentional move aimed at crippling them financially.“It’s the responsibility of the administration to provide basic facilities and other amenities to the traders. But authorities have failed to deliver,” he said. Mirwaiz said that if the LoC is opened it will boost the economy of the Valley to a great extent and “our commodities will reach the whole South Asia.”

He urged the traders and the businessmen of the Valley to work with commitment and dedication. “Business and trade are the mainstays of Valley’s economy and the traders should work honesty and with dedication for our region to make it prosperous,” he said.”Despite paying taxes, our traders are reeling under numerous problems and government is neglecting it deliberately,” he said, while terming the attitude of government authorities as unfortunate. He added that these conditions would damage the framework of trade and business in Kashmir.-SANA
