Decision of polls boycott final: Qazi

ISLAMABAD: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that his decision of polls boycott was final as there could be no fair and free elections without restoring the judiciary. Talking to a delegation of European Commission, led by Jane D Cook, who called on him, Qazi said that he boycotted the upcoming elections for the just cause of constitution supremacy, rule of law, free and independent parliament and restoration of the judiciary.

He said that restoration of constitution and judiciary were must for holding of fair, free and transparent elections. “The coming parliament wouldn’t be free and independent without restoring the country’s constitution and judiciary,” he added.The JI Ameer accused the government of pre-rigging in the polls and said that the government has already started influencing on the election process. “There will be selection instead of elections,” he accused and added that only restoration of the constitution and judiciary would guarantee free and fair election.

He renewed his demand for restoration of all deposed judges including former Chief Justice of Pakistan and said that there cannot be an independent judiciary without restoring the judiciary. The MMA President also held meeting with Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Seiji Kojima and discussed with him matters of mutual interests beside the current political situation in Pakistan and the upcoming polls.-SANA
