MMA no more an election alliance, says Qazi

ISLAMABAD: President Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmad Monday said that although the MMA is intact, it is no more an election alliance and added that he would not allow any party in the MMA platform to use ‘Book’ as an election symbol. Addressing a joint press conference with PTI Chief Imran Khan at his residence, Qazi said that MMA would remain intact as it was formed to end sectarianism and other differences within religious communities in the country.

He said that APDM will neither participate in the upcoming elections nor it will support any party in the polls but will launch a movement to flop the upcoming general elections. He said that the alliance will gear up its movement for restoration of the constitution and independent judiciary instead of contesting elections. The JI Ameer said that now only four MMA parties are included in the APDM after its restructuring. These, he said, included Jamait Ulama-e-Pakistan (Noorani), Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Jamait Ulama-e-Islam (Senior) and Tehrik-e-Islami.

He said that any party, contesting the election will practically strengthen the American agenda and will weaken the country’s sovereignty. “Participating in the polls will make dictatorship strong in the country and will weaken national institutions and its sovereignty,” he maintained. He called upon all the political parties and the masses to join hands against dictatorship by not participating in the polls. The nation, he said, will give the dictators a strong message that they would not support the tyranny rule by staying away from the elections. He said that mass contact movement would be launched for the reinstatement of judges and restoration of the constitution.-SANA
