SHEIKHUPURA: President Pervez Musharraf has said that the government is utilizing all resources for generating power to meet the demand of growing economic activities in the country. He said this while inaugurating the fast track rental 136 MW power plant at Bhikhi near. President Musharraf said that record growth of economy over the last eight years has substantially increased the country’s energy requirements. He said the government is aware of the needs of adequate energy resources and in this connection maximum attention is being focused to mobilize all resources to make the country self reliant in energy sector.
He said that Pakistan Electrical Power Company will have to do more to improve the electricity transmission and distribution system throughout the country. He said more grid stations and transformers are needed for smooth transmission of the electricity. The government, he said, is taking concrete steps for the welfare and well being of the masses. In this connection, large number of mega projects are being completed throughout the country costing billions of rupees, he added.
The Federal Minister for Water and Power Tariq Hameed in his address said that by the year 2008 and 2009 more than 2000 megawatt of electricity will be produced to meet the shortage of power. A power project worth 80 million dollars has been set up by a US based company in six months, he said. The function was also attended by the Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Ijaz Nisar and other high ranking officials.–SANA
