Govt. taking real steps for holding free, fail polls: Memon

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Information Minister Nisar Memon has said that the caretaker government is taking concrete steps to create a conducive atmosphere for the holding of free, fair and transparent elections. In an interview with state run radio station here on Monday, he said that the Election Commission is responsible to conduct the elections and caretaker government will provide all assistance to the Commission to accomplish the task in time.

He said that government has provided level paying field to all the political parties in the election process. Government, he said, has allowed the leadership of the two major political parties to return home and take part in the electioneering. He said there is no restriction on them and they are free to move throughout the country. The Minister also appreciated the decision of PML (N) to contest the upcoming elections and expressed the hope that those parties which are thinking for boycott would realize the situation and take part in the polls.

To a question about the law and order situation in the country, Memon said that following the steps taken by the government, the situation has improved to a great extent. He referred to the situation in Swat and said the area has been cleared from the militants. The Minister appealed to the lawyers and the civil society to extend their full cooperation to the caretaker government in maintaining law and order situation for holding of coming elections in a peaceful manner.-SANA
