ISLAMABAD: Executive Director Kashmiri American Council Center in Washington Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai Sunday lauded the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNUDHR) and demanded its strict implementation in occupied Kashmir to curb violations of human rights by Indian troops in the held valley.
In a statement issued here on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, he said even if all of UNUDHR lofty provisions safeguarding fundamental human freedoms and liberties remain dishonoured in many parts of the globe, it stands as a moral reproach to wrongdoing nations that may facilitate reforms.
Dr Fai lamented the silence by the world community over Indian army’s atrocities in the occupied territory and demanded that India be pressurized to give Kashmiris their fundamental right of self-determination. He also called for inclusion of genuine leadership of the Kashmiri people in negotiation process between India and Pakistan to help resolve Kashmir issue amicably. He said that Indian endeavours to solve a political dispute through military means were bound to fail.-SANA
