US Guide for New Immigrants to be launched in Urdu

NEW YORK: US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), in partnership with Council of Peoples Organization and the Center for Integration and Advancement of New Americans, will introduce an Urdu language version of “Welcome to the United States; A Guide for New Immigrants” on Monday, December 10 at a community meeting here in Brooklyn. During the meeting, Alfonso Aguilar, Chief of the USCIS Office of Citizenship, will present the publication to community organizations serving New York’s Urdu speaking population.

The Guide for New Immigrants was first published by USCIS three years ago to provide practical information to help new immigrants settle into everyday life in the United States. The Guide is currently being revised to include new information from government agencies and community organizations. Originally released in English, Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese, the Guide is now also available in Arabic, Polish, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Tagalog and now Urdu.-SANA

  • As it often happens with many government publications this one is very general and does not address many specific needs, especially related to practical matters of finding a job or starting a business, which should be covered in details. I am an immigrant myself and I speak from my own experience. That’s why I wrote and published a very DETAILED guide for immigrants on how to find a job and start & grow own business currently it focuses on a specific job market – Chicago and suburbs but I plan to write the same guides for other major cities.
