LAHORE: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami and MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that only lifting of emergency would be meaningless if the November 3 steps were not withdrawn. The JI Ameer held a meeting with PML (N) Chief Mohammad Nawaz Sharif here on Saturday. They discussed their strategy regarding the upcoming general elections. A final decision, regarding polls boycott, will be taken by APDM at its meeting today (Sunday), Qazi said.
He said that MMA will remain intact despite the differences. He further said that he was firm on the demand of the restoration of the judiciary to its prior November 3 position because if the actions were not withdrawn, then the lifting of emergency would be fruitless.Later talking to media, Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan Peoples Party talks about independence of the judiciary instead of its restoration whereas; we want the restoration of judiciary. He said that he exchanged views with Qazi Hussain Ahmad on matters relating to the charter of demand and the pertaining differences with the People’s Party.
Nawaz said that it was decided in the meetings with Benazir Bhutto that after concurrence on the charter of demand, election boycott deadline would be given, but no headway could be made in it. He said if the APDM decides to take part in the next general elections then they would launch a full-scale election campaign. He urged the people to support their candidates, and added that his party will continue its struggle for the restoration of constitution and the judiciary.-SANA
