ISLAMABAD: Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Awaz Al Asiri called on former chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at his residence. The meeting between the Saudi envoy and the detained former chief justice lasted for about an hour at the Judges enclave. Asiri also invited Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to visit Saudi Arabia. Former chief justice discussed with the Saudi Ambassador the current political situation besides demands for the re-instatement of the judges and restoration of judiciary to its early position of November 3.
Chaudhry thanked Asiri for inviting him to Saudi Arabia. He however, informed the Saudi envoy that he would not leave the country till restoration of judiciary to its early position of November 3.The deposed chief justice said that no matter how difficult are the circumstances, the judges and lawyers wouldn’t turn back and would continue its fight till restoration of the independent judiciary. The judges and lawyers’ community wouldn’t breathe till restoration of the constitution and judiciary, he told the Saudi Ambassador. “I will think about visiting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when I will sit in may chamber,” Chaudhry told Asiri.
Source said that Iftikhat Muhammad Chaudhry told the Saudi envoy Asiri that he was still Chief Justice of Pakistan and lauded the lawyers’ movement for independent judiciary during the meeting. Sources also said that following his meeting with the chief justice, Saudi ambassador also visited the foreign office and discussed matters of national importance.-SANA
