Elections in Swat to be held per schedule: Aurakzai

MINGORA: NWFP Governor Lieutenant General (Rtd) Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai has said that elections will be held in Swat according to the specified schedule while operation will continue till elimination of militants.Addressing the elders of Swat during a day long visit to Mingora on Friday, the Governor said, orders have issued to minimize loss of life in the ongoing military action.

He said anyone who assists in the arrest of local Taliban will be awarded Rs100, 000 while the one who helps in arresting or killing of foreign militant will get Rs200,000.Muhammad Ali Jan directed the DCO Swat to assess the damage caused by the operation and the present a report based on the findings so that a rehabilitation package could be prepared for the victims. He said monetary compensation will be announced for the innocent victims killed in the operation.

He directed to shift the tent village from Bari Kot to Mingora to facilitate the people.
The Governor lauded the role of peace loving people of Swat during the recent operation and said that 1.6 million population of the area was taken as hostage by only two per cent of them and the army action had become must to control the miscreants.

He hoped that the situation will soon become normal and development activities would be restored in all the affected areas of the district. He also stressed the elders to revive the traditional security committees, known as “Chugha Parties” and assured that all possible cooperation on the part of the respective law enforcing agencies will be ensured in this respect.

Referring to the electioneering process, the Governor said that the upcoming General Elections would be held in accordance with the given dates and every effort would be made to enable the people of District Swat to cast their verdict in the elections. He said that efforts would be made to decrease the limits to further ease the people, keeping in view the given situation in the respective areas. Governor also assured to increase the strength of police and Frontier Constabulary to ensure restoration of complete peaceful atmosphere in the area. Every possible support will be provided to the respective forces to perform their duties, he added.-SANA
