ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto Thursday warned that any rigging in the forthcoming general elections could escalate the situation to a country wide massive movements by the opposition parties. Talking to journalists after paying a visit to Golra Sharif’s shrine here, she said any attempt to manipulate elections could mount disorder in the country. She said that hope of peaceful transition to democracy through fair elections had motivated PPP to contest the polls.
Bhutto accused the government of hatching plans of rigging the upcoming polls. If demands for free elections were not meet, oppositions would be compelled to plan a movement against the government, she warned. She said that intentions of the regimes were already not good as it was running away from elections by imposing emergency. It was a huge pressure which let the government to announce the date for elections, she said.-SANA
