EC to allot election symbols on Sunday

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has convened a meeting of the political parties on Sunday to allot them election symbols.According to Election Commission sources it has received so for 48 applications from the political parties for the allotment of symbols. The commission has reminded that only those parties will be allotted symbols which fulfill the requirement of Political Parties Order 2002.

The sources say that after the meeting it would decide about the allotment of symbols to the political parties. Meanwhile, the provincial Election Commission Office in Lahore has issued a list of 147 election symbols for the upcoming general elections to be held on January 8, 2008.

According to official sources, the allotment of election symbols will be finalized on December 9. Election symbol of bicycle was allotted to PML (Q), Arrow to PPP, book to MMA, and Kite symbol was allotted to MQM. About 16 symbols will be allotted to independent candidates on December 9, sources said.-SANA
