QUETTA: President Pervez Musharraf has said that armed forces have played a significant role in the improvement and stability of national economy during the last eight years. Addressing trainee Army officers at command and Staff College in Quetta on Wednesday he said the armed forces have rendered commendable services towards progress and prosperity of rural and neglected areas broadening of tax base and enhancing national revenues.
President said that tax payers base has been broadened increasing the revenue from 300 billion rupees to one trillion rupees which is a record. He said that WAPDA was saved from collapse and it has been made a viable organization while thousands of acres of land have been protected from water logging and salinity in Sindh and Punjab.
President said that Pak Army played an important role in timely repair of Sukker Barrage saving Sindh from scarcity of water. He said that armed forces also played a commendable role in rehabilitation of earthquake affecters in NWFP and Azad Kashmir besides relief activates in flood hit areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
President said that country faced terrorism and extremism in tribal areas and Swat during the last eight years however timely steps taken by armed forces would soon restore the law and order in these areas.
