ISLAMABAD: Ameer Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam JUI (F) Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman Wednesday reiterated to contest the upcoming election and asked the government for restoration of constitution, independence of judiciary, release of political activists and lifting of curb on media for the holding of free and transparent polls in the country.
Talking to France’s ambassador to Islamabad Regis D Belenet who called on the JUI Chief here, Fazl-ur-Rahman said that his party has decided to contest general elections. Matters relating to the upcoming general elections, oppositions’ demand for free polls, terrorism, situation in Afghanistan and Swat operations were come under discussion in the meeting which lasted for more than an hour.
Fazl-ur-Rahman in the meeting briefed the French envoy about his party’s strategy in national elections, telling him that restoration of the constitution and independent judiciary vital for holding of fair, free and transparent elections.The ambassador also discussed Swat operation and the situation in tribal areas with the JUI leader.
While talking about the issue of Afghanistan, the JUI Ameer said that every country has the right to preserve its freedom and sovereignty. Withdrawal of the coalition forces from Afghanistan is must in order to have a durable peace in the region, he said. “Afghan issue can be resolved through negotiation and not by force,” he added
