Election under Musharraf to exacerbate crisis: JI leader

HAJEERA: Sardar Ejaz Afzal, President Mutahidda Majlis-e-Amal Azad Kashmir and Ameer of the Jama’at-e-Islami in the state, has said that holding of election under President Musharraf will exacerbate the prevailing tension in the country. Addressing a public gathering here, he said the journey towards democracy could not be completed without the freedom of judiciary and media.

Ejaz Afzal said that Musharraf’s doffing of uniform was not sufficient and he will also have to quit his post of President. He said the present tenure of the President was illegal and for securing this tenure, Musharraf even went to the extent of targeting the judiciary, which had become a hurdle in his way. “Sixty judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, have become the victims of Musharraf’s vendetta,” he elaborated.

The JI chief said the letter, which the daughter of the Chief Justice has written to the judges, is a matter requiring deep reflection by the nation. He said the treatment, which the government is meting out to the judges is deplorable. Sardar Ejaz Afzal said Musharraf’s policies have caused tremendous loss to the Kashmir cause. He claimed that the Kashmir issue had receded to the background during the tenure of the present government.

The JI leader accused the AJK government of doing nothing else than the flattery of the Pakistani rulers. He said the state rulers now gotten exposed as they are instantly changing their stands for their vested interests.
