KARACHI: Lawyers in the metropolitan city on Saturday observed a full-day strike in protest against proclamation of emergency, curbs on media and deposing of judges. Courts, including ATC’s and City court wore deserted look as lawyers of Bar Associations of the city including Karachi Bar Association (KBA) boycotted the courts.

Lawyers backing the call of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) stayed away from court proceedings. Around 362 under trial prisoners (UTPs) from all the prisons of the city including Juvenile and Central prisons were produced at City court today but there cases could not be heard due to absence of lawyers.

Later, a general body meeting of KBA was held at Shuhada-e-Punjab Hall presided over by member Sindh Bar Sathi Muhammad Ishaq. It condemned the imposition of emergency and passed the resolution, demanding restoration of constitution of 1973 and the restoration of deposed judges. Condemning the arrest of lawyers and political workers, meeting demanded their early release. It also demanded immediate lift of curbs on media.-SANA
