Supreme Court to resume hearing of petition against emergency

ISLAMABAD: The full court of the Supreme Court adjourned till tomorrow (Friday) hearing of the petitions filed against the imposition of emergency and promulgation of Provisional constitutional order in the country. The petitions have been filed by PPP’s Tikka Iqbal Mohammad Khan and Waton Party Chairman Barrister Zafar Ullah Khan.

Counsel for Tikka Iqbal Mohammad Khan, Irfan Qadir said the President, under extraordinary situation, has the authority to impose emergency. However, Chief of the Army Staff can not take such a step. The Counsel was of the view that the Parliament was functioning in the country and reasons described for the imposition of the emergency could be resolved through the House. Chief Justice of Supreme Court Mr. Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar is heading the full court.-SANA
