ISLAMABAD: President General Pervez Musharraf said that the decision of emergency was taken to ensure peace and security and hoped that the third phase of transition would lead towards free, fair and transparent elections. Addressing the Parliamentarians belonging to PML (Q) and its allies here, the President said the support given to him by the Parliamentarians is an endorsement of the political process which had brought about a turn around in all sectors of national life particularly in the economic and political fields.
The decision for imposition of emergency was taken in the national interest so as to ensure peace and security, he said. It would also facilitate in creating harmony amongst all the three pillars of state, he added. General Pervez Musharraf while giving the background of declaring emergency in the country said that many parts of government were paralysed and the security as well as law enforcing agencies demoralized.
The President said that the decisions in future would be taken in consultation with all concerned and in the best national interest. The issues which forced imposition of emergency would be addressed and resolved at the earliest to help create conducive conditions for completion of third phase of transition.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister hoped that the re-election of the President for the next five years in office will strengthen the democratic process. He said PML (Q) and its allies are united together to support President Musharraf in his effort to strengthen national solidarity and stability.
The Parliamentarians endorsed the imposition of emergency and proclamation of Provisional Constitutional Order and congratulated the President for the decision. They also expressed full confidence on the leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf and the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.-SANA
