SWAT: Situation in Swat remained tense as security personnel killed 10 miscreants in Manglawar, about 15 kilometers from district headquarters Mingora. Meanwhile cameraman and producer of a private TV channel were injured in rocket attack in Fizagat area. The rocket landed in the courtyard of a mosque.
Director General ISPR Major General Waheed Arshad said that at 1:30 p.m. security personnel while retaliating miscreants’ attack on the security forces killed 10 miscreants in the area. The army used three gunship helicopters in the operation. General Arshad said that the persons killed in the operation were the followers of the Maulana Fazlullah who according to DG ISPR has made lives of the local people miserable.
He said that security personnel would not leave Swat till the end of militancy in the area. He hoped that security forces would soon normalize the situation by ending militancy and restoring writ of the government in Swat.
A private TV channel reported that over 300 security personnel were kidnapped in Swat. Earlier, unknown persons destroyed a police post in Telligram area near Kabal. In Charbagh village near Mingora local Taliban have besieged a police post after which security forces and Taliban taken positions in the area. Militants later quit the police post in Charbagh and returned to their hideouts, sources said.
Police and paramilitary troops set up security posts and bunkers protected by sandbags near Frontier House in Kabal, a small town near Mingora, while security forces fired over local Taliban in Kabal bazaar increasing tension in the area. The main bazaar in Kabal was closed, the town was tense and residents were told not to venture out of their homes, although no curfew has officially been declared.
