ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Saturday said the historic verdict by Supreme Court regarding re-election of President Pervez Musharraf for second term has proven the supremacy of constitution as well as the independence of judiciary. The judgement would also help strengthen democracy in the Country. He said this while addressing the proposers and seconders before leaving for Election Commission for scrutiny of nomination papers of President Pervez Musharraf at Prime Minister House.
The Prime Minister congratulated the proposers and seconders on the decision of Apex court in the favour of their candidate and said the verdict has removed uncertainties about the future developments. He said all the stakeholders should accept the decision with open hearts and minds and participate in the election process. The PML and allied parties have clear majority for the re-election of President Musharraf for the second term, he said and added that his re-election would ensure continued journey toward progress, prosperity and development.
The Prime Minister said today a new phase of Presidential election will start after the scrutiny of the candidates for Presidential election. He said the government is taking all necessary measures to ensure smooth electoral process and no one would be allowed to violate the law of land. The proposers and seconders congratulated the Prime Minister on the historic decision by the Supreme Court and expressed their profound happiness regarding the decision. They said the decision of Supreme Court would help ensure continuity and consistency of policies which is very important for the future of the country.They said the successful re-election of President Musharraf would ensure political stability in the country and that they will vote for him on October 6.-SANA
Presidential election process in line with legal norms: Shaukat
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the whole process of Presidential election is being conducted according to law and constitution in a transparent manner. Talking to newsmen at the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad, he said it is the democratic right to raise objections on the nomination papers. He said constitution and law will be upheld. The Prime Minister said, the Chief Election Commissioner will announce his decision about the candidature of President Pervez Musharraf after hearing of the arguments.-SANA
