ISLAMABAD: A four-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, ordered release of Javed Hashmi and all other arrested political activists. The bench passed the order while hearing the suo moto case about arrest of political workers and closure of roads in twin cities.
The court, during the hearing, expressed its annoyance over the incident. “Who has issued orders of closure of the roads” the court inquired the Islamabad administration officials and DIG Rawalpindi. The bench also directed them to submit the order to the court. Islamabad administration, however, tendered unconditional apology to the court.
The apex court ordered the administration to avoid putting hurdles to stop traffic flow on the roads. “We should celebrate holding of the presidential elections, the administration should not clamp curfew,” the court observed during the hearing.-SANA
