ISLAMABAD: The first phase of the Presidential Election has completed with the filing of nomination papers. The nomination papers of President Pervez Musharraf were submitted this morning with the Chief Election Commissioner Retired Justice Qazi Mohammad Farooq. In all, seventeen nomination papers have been filed on behalf of the President. First paper was submitted by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz as proposer and Federal Minister Ghazi Ghulab Jamal as seconder.
The other papers were filed by the PML President Chaudhary Shujaat Hussein, Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Leader of the House in the Senate Wasim Sajjad, Federal Ministers Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Sheikh Rashid, Chaudhary Shahbaz Hussain, Engineer Amir Muqam, Babar Ghouri, Provincial Chief Ministers Chaudhary Pervez Elahi, Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Jam Mohammad Yousaf, Ministers of State Tariq Azeem and Anisa Zeib Tahir Kheli, Khusro Bakhtiar, Chairman Kashmir Committee Hamid Nasir Chatta and Parliamentarins including Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari, Israr ul Ebad, Ms. Zeib Gohar Ayub, Nisar Memon, Mehnaz Rafi, Farooq Sattar, Akram Masi Gil, Ms.Doniya Aziz, Mushtaq Ghani and others.
Talking to media persons after submitting the nomination papers of President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said today is the historic day for the democracy, the country and its people. He said the process for the Presidential election has started and he assured that the election will be will held in a free and transparent manner, and every voter will have the right to cast his vote according to his will. He said we have submitted the nomination papers along with the proposers and seconders belonging to our coalition partners. He said the whole procedure has been completed in a smooth manner.
He said President Pervez Musharraf is the unanimous candidate of the PML and its coalition partners and expressed the confidence that he will emerge victorious in the election. He said the re-election of the President will be an important development for the country and the region, which will ensure continuity of policies and leadership and the counry will move forward on the path of development.
The PML President Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain has said that everyone has accepted the present assemblies as the electoral college for the Presidential election. The PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussein Sayed said the President will take off uniform after his election before his swearing in for another term. He said everything is being done in a transparent , constitutionally and democratic manner.
He said President Pervez Musharraf is our candidate and the PPP and lawyers have fielded their own candidates, which is a true spirit of the democracy. He said the PML and its coalition partners have enough votes to re-elect the President. He said the President started his campaign from Quetta yesterday and today he is meeting with the members of Parliament belonging to NWFP. Senator Mushahid Hussein Sayed said the government wants national reconciliation ending the culture of confrontation with all political forces as it is the way forward for the strengthening of democratic institutions of the country. He said for this purpose, we will hold dialogue with all the political parties including PPP.-SANA
Justice(R) Wajihuddin files nomination papers for presidential election
ISLAMABAD: Lawyers nominated candidate for presidency Justice(R) Wajihuddin Ahmad submitted his nomination papers in Election Commission (EC). Justice(R) Wajihuddin along with Munir A Malik and other lawyers reached EC in a procession. Large number of lawyers present outside the Election Commission building chanted anti government slogans on the occasion. Talking to media, Justice Wajihuddin demanded direct presidential election and Said that the lawyers could win if direct presidential elections were held in the country.
He said that the next assemblies should elect the president rather than the existing one. He said Gen. Musharraf is ineligible to be re-elected as president. He said that the country passing through a situation of uncertainty even after eight-year tenure of President Musharraf. Justice Wajihuddin claimed that the present government was not able to provide jobs, education and pure drinking water to people. About 250 lawyers who arrived with Justice Wajihuddin at the Election Commission Office, chanted slogans against the President, Election Commissioner and the present government. They were also holding banners and placards against the government and the election commission.-SANA
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party has submitted nomination papers of its presidential candidate Makhdoom Amin Fahim with the Election Commission of Pakistan . People’s Party leaders Safdar Abbasi, Raja Pervez Ashraf and Babar Awan submitted the nomination papers of their party candidate. Iftikhar Gillani, Naheed Khan, Farhatullah Babar and other party leaders also accompanied Makhdoom Amin Fahim. Amin Fahim talking to the media on the occasion invited all opposition parties for a joint opposition platform.
He said the APDM has divided the opposition parties. He also thanked the party chairperson Benazir Bhutto for nominating him as presidential candidate of the party. PPP central leader Raja Pervez Ashraf talking to media outside the election commission premises, called Amin Fahim a strong presidential candidate. People’s Party workers holding party flags were present in large number outside the election commission building.-SANA
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and leaders of the coalition parties of Pakistan Muslim League submitted the nomination papers of incumbent President General Pervez Musharraf as a candidate for the presidential elections with the Election Commission (EC). Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, PML President Ch Shujaat Hussain, the chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, along with other coalition partners, submitted the papers on the Musharraf’s behalf.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz presented the nomination papers to the Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Qazi Muhammad Farooque. The chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, Mushahid Hussain Syed, Rao Sikander Iqbal, Hamid Nasir Chattha, Babar Ghouri, Khurshid Kasuri, Sheikh Rashid, Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, Waseem Sajjad and other government leaders were also present at the election commissioner office.
Talking to media after filing the nomination papers, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that every body has right to cast the vote according to his own will and he is hopeful that President Musharraf would win the election. “This is a significant day for Pakistan,” Mr Aziz said.
“President Musharraf is the candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League and its allies and we are fully confident that he will succeed and this will be very important for Pakistan and the region,” Aziz said. Some of the lawyers present outside Election Commission chanted anti government slogans when Prime Minister Aziz left the Election Commission building. Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi talking to media said that he had earlier told that the president would contest elections in military uniform. Stringent security measures were taken in the federal capital on the occasion. All roads from Rawalpindi and other cities to Islamabad were blocked and heavy contingents of police were deployed at various Facing Supreme Court challenges, Gen Musharraf has promised that he would resign as head of the army if he were elected president for another term.-SANA
