PESHAWAR: All Pakistan Democratic Movement (APDM) in its meeting gave the final approval to the decision regarding resignations from the National and provincial assemblies. APDM also announced that Chief Minister NWEP Akram Khan Durrani would also recommend to dissolve the NWEP Assembly on October 2. All members unanimously agreed with the decision of resigning from the assemblies on October 2 in the much awaited important meeting of the APDM, presided over by President MMA Qazi Hussain Ahmed. The meeting was held at the Jhagra House here at the residence of Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Secretary General of PML (N).
The hours-long APDM meeting was attended by Amir Jamat-e-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmed, PTI Chief Imran Khan, JUI (F) Chief Maulan Fazal-ur-Rehman, President PMAP Mahmud Khan Achakzai, ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali, PML (N) Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, PML (N) leader Chaudhry Nisar and other important leaders of APDM attended the meeting. Amir Jamat-e-Islami Qazi informed the media at the beginning of the press conference that the APDM took important historical decisions and requested Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman to “reveal the decisions and inform the nation by announcing the good news.”
Addressing to joint press conference by the APDM leaders after the high level meeting, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman said that Chief Minister NWEP Akram Khan Durrani would recommend to Governor NWFP for dissolving the provincial Assembly on October 2. He said that it has been unanimously decided in the meeting that parliamentarians from all the parliamentary parties in the APDM would hand-over their resignations on September 29 to their respective party leaders. Elaborating the decision, he said that Members National Assembly (MNAs) would submit their resignations with the central leaders of their respective parties while provincial parliamentarian would handover their resignations to the provincial chief of the concerned political party.
MMA leader said that central leaders of all the political parties in Islamabad would then submit the resignations with Speaker National Assembly while the provincial chiefs of the concerned political parties would put forward the resignations to the provincial speaker of the assemblies concerned. Fazal said that Chief Minister NWEP Akram Khan Durrani would also recommend to the Governor NWFP for dissolving the provincial Assembly on October 2. He said that the APDM leadership would meet at the residence of PML (N) leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on the same day after submitting the resignations with Speaker National Assembly.
Fazal said that the decision has been taken in the light of All Parties Conference’s declaration in London that opposition parties, with the support of 160 million people of Pakistan, would continue its struggle for restoration of the democracy and throwing out the dictatorship. It was decided in that meeting that the opposition would collectively strive for putting an end to the military role in politics and that to halt General Musharraf from re-election as president. He said that the opposition had resolved that if Musharraf tried to become the president again then all options would be considered including resignations from the assemblies. He termed the APDM decision as historic, saying that the decision would have far reaching positive implications on the future of Pakistan.-SANA
