ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that Pakistan’s Armed Forces are fully capable of defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and would not allow any foreign troops to enter in to its territory. Talking to the Federal Minister for Defence Rao Sikandar Iqbal who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House here Wednesday, the Premier said that Pakistan does not have any aggressive designs against any country and believes in peaceful coexistence, however the government would continue to provide adequate funds to meet its defence needs.
He said that the government believes in maintaining a minimum credible deterrence to ensure balance of power as well as peace and stability in the region. Pakistan’s nuclear assets are governed by an effective command and control structure and Pakistan is fully capable of defending these assets, he remarked. He said that the policy of self reliance in the field of Defence is being pursued to ensure strong, stable and prosperous Pakistan. In the same context the armed forces are being provided requisite conventional and strategic weapons.
He said that a strong defence is the ultimate guarantee to peace and necessary funds would be made available for modernization and up-gradation of armed forces. He said that peace is achieved through strengthen and not weakness. The Prime Minister appreciated the role of armed forces and said that they have always come forward to rescue and rehabilitate during any natural calamity like floods, earthquakes.
The Minister for defence updated the Prime Minister on various initiatives undertaken by the ministry for modernisation and up-gradation of the armed forces and said the process is continuing satisfactorily. He apprised the Prime Minister on the development projects under completion in his constituency and said that the projects, once completed, would contribute towards the socio-economic development of the area by providing economic opportunities and job avenues for the people.-SANA
