PPP names Faheem for Presidential run if Musharraf disqualified

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party would field Makhdoom Amin Faheem in the Presidential race with Ms Faryal Talpur as cover candidate as an option in the event that the Supreme Court disqualifies General Pervez Musharraf. In a statement issued here on Tuesday by the spokesman former senator Farhatullah Babar said that if the Supreme Court does not disqualify General Pervez Musharraf, PPP would consider resigning from the Parliament unless steps are taken towards democracy.

The spokesperson said that it has been the position of the party that if General Musharraf doffs uniform, lifts ban on the two times Prime Minister and takes steps for national reconciliation as outlined by the party then the PPP would oppose General Musharraf’s election in the Parliament but would not resign from the Assemblies.
He said that as for the candidature of Justice (Rtd) Wajihuddin was concerned it was premature to comment on it unless the issue of eligibility of General Musharraf was determined.-SANA
