ISLAMABAD: Police scuffled with the workers of Pakistan Muslim League (N) in different parts of the country particularly in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Lahore to stop them form going to the Islamabad Airport to welcome their leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Policemen surrounded a procession of PML-N workers at Zero Point in Islamabad, and resorted to heavy shelling and baton charge. Several people were injured as the police used force against them. Some of them painted. At least 300 workers and leaders were arrested.
Prominent among those arrested are former president Rafique Tarar, Raja Zafarul Haq, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Tehmeena Daulatana, Ahsan Iqbal, Mehmoud Khan Achakzai, Barrister Sultan Mehmoud Chaudhry, Dr. Qadir Magsi and other party leaders. MMA leaders Liaqat Baluch, Mian Muhammad Aslam, Syed Bilal and others were also arrested while MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Secretary General Maulana Fazlur Rehman were already under house arrest.
PML (N) Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said that lists of those officials involved in use of force or extra-judicial steps against party leaders and workers would be prepared and they would be tried in courts. He said the rulers cannot digest the supreme court decision and they are creating hurdles and hindrances in the smooth return of their party leadership. Several party workers succeeded in breaking the police cordon and reached the airport.-SANA
