New initiatives being taken to improve people lives: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday said that several new initiatives have been undertaken by the government to ensure equitable growth and improve the living standard of the people. Talking to Minister for Industries and Production Jehangir Khan Tareen who called on him here at the PM House Shaukat Aziz said that due to the improved financial position of the country several new initiatives were taken for the betterment of people. He said that the reason of these initiatives were to create more jobs, increasing the income and improving the quality of life of the people, lining of water courses, development of dairy sector improving rural income and promoting small and medium enterprises.

All these, he said, would have a positive impact in remote and low income areas and the strategy is to empower the people and transfer the benefits of economic growth to all segments of society. The Premier also discussed with the Minister about the inflow of new investments into the manufacturing sector which results in increasing the production, help in growing the middle class and creating demand for products across a broad spectrum. He said that we need to redouble efforts to implement the SMEs policy to reduce the hassle factor so that small and medium enterprise can function without interference and impediments.

The Prime Minister said that SMEs represent a major opportunity for growth and jobs creation and it will continue to receive highest attention and support from the government. Banks are also being encouraged to finance SMEs to provide much needed capital so that they can retool, expand and increase production to meet growing demand of the domestic and foreign markets, he added.

The Minister for Industries and Production updated the Prime Minister of the expansion plan of utility stores cooperation whose number has been increased to 2900. He also apprised him of the various initiatives undertaken by the government including setting up of daily bazaars, appointments of Price Magistrates, increasing the numbers of utility stores and release of buffer stocks to ensure stability of prices during Ramzan.The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts made by his ministry to reduce prices of essential items and the steps taken to promote the industrial sector in the country.-SANA
