Salik seeks UN help for democracy in Pakistan

j-salik.JPGISLAMBAD: Convener World Minorities Alliance and former federal minister J. Salik on Sunday urged upon United Nation Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to come forward and help in promoting democracy in Pakistan as foreign inference in the politics of Pakistan violates international norms. After on a token-hunger strike since Sunday morning, J. Salik in a press conference called upon UN Secretary General not to support emergency or martial law in any country otherwise it would tarnish the image of the world body.

He asked Ban Ki Moon to take notice of prevailing state of uncertainty among Pakistani masses amid talks of declaring state of emergency and martial law. He maintained that due to such uncertain condition in the country only judiciary was functioning without fear and favour. He, however, deplored that the role of others institutions in Pakistan were not effective. “The UN should take notice as some foreign countries are interfering in Pakistan’s internal politics, which is violation of international norms,” Salik said. There was a single way out to get rid of terrorism to promote and support democracy throughout the world, he added.-SANA
