ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that re-election of President Musharraf will ensure stability, progress and prosperity of Pakistan. He was talking to Parliamentarians who called on him at the PM’s House.The Prime Minister said that Pakistan Muslim League (Q) and coalition partners are promoting the process of national and political reconciliation by having dialogue and discussion with several parties for the cause of promoting democracy in the best interest of Pakistan.
This will enable us to develop consensus on major national issues driven by national interest which will allow Pakistan to continue and flourish on the path of growth and improve the standards of living of the people, he added.The Premier said that the current Parliament has achieved historic landmark of longest tenure and will complete its term. He said our dialogue with different political parties is designed to promote national political reconciliation and ensure free and fair elections which will augur well for the cause of democracy in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister said as result of structural reforms and policies of the government of PML and its allied parties, the country has made a major transformation in its economy with a growing middle class, increased jobs and investment opportunities. He said the government has also introduced transparency and integrity in governance and ensured continuity and consistency of policies.
While deliberating upon the foreign policy, the Prime Minister said Pakistan wants to promote friendly relations with all countries particularly our neighbours, members of the Muslim Ummah and the major powers in the world. Pakistan is playing a major role and cooperating with several countries to oppose militancy and extremism. Because of the situation in Afghanistan which has created several challenges for Pakistan, he added.
The Prime Minister maintained we are taking necessary measures so that Afghanistan becomes peaceful, strong and stable and it will help to promote peace in the entire region.The Parliamentarians updated the Prime Minister about the party activities in their respective constituencies and expressed confidence that in the upcoming elections the PML and coalition partners will be successful and will form the next government. The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Tariq Azeem, Minister for Education Punjab Mr. Imran Masood, MNAs Begium Tehmina Dastee and Mr. Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhary.-SANA
